Comments from ` Sport from ‘Neutrals’ – Interesting about Newcastle United after Manchester United’s final defeat
Fascinating reading through these comments from ` Sport following Newcastle United’s defeat by Manchester United at Wembley.
The comments from neutrals are particularly revealing…
A little different than what Newcastle United fans expected from ` Sport’s ‘neutrals’.
Neutrals’ ` Sport commentary in the past has been overwhelmingly a catalog of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.
Especially things about the owners of Newcastle United and the media-inspired hoaxes that NUFC fans have grown accustomed to when being blamed for who now owns their club.
However, this time politics is (almost) completely missing in the comments.
Instead we have a minority of trolls/mackems in the comments trying to shed light on Newcastle United’s second place finish in a cup final.
Some progress…
` Sport readers’ comments from neutrals, with Man U fans and the odd Newcastle supporter also contributing…
“As a longtime Man Utd supporter so happy with the result.
But had my Utd not made it to the final I would have backed NUFC against anyone.
What support, what a city and such fantastic people. Your time will come.’
“Congratulations to Man UTD. Absolutely deserved. It’s a tough time as a Liverpool supporter but a highly deserved win.
‘Glory, glory, Man Utd. The look from Shearer, Ant and Dec’s face was priceless.’
“Not enough quality in the Newcastle team. They could play another month and still not score. Well done Man Utd.’
“Their bubble has burst a little since Christmas…they just can’t score. They did the whole 2nd half the same thing that didn’t work in the 1st, just faster.’
“Let me tell you honestly, I’m going to LOVE it if we beat her. LOVE IT.”…..
Too bad… a long time to wait Kevin!!!!’
“Newcastle have excelled in reaching a final, that has served them very well. Unfortunately they have failed where Middlesbrough, Wigan, Portsmouth and other similar sized clubs to Newcastle have succeeded.
“Saudi Utd. vs Qatar Utd?’
“I’m a Man Utd supporter but I’m a huge fan of Eddie Howe and what he has achieved. For all new players, he flipped the team first with the core of the original squad. Which is a sign that he is a good manager.”
“Having (Newcastle) fans like this is something the club, the city and the family have to be proud of.
Kudos and respect.’
“It will be interesting to see how NUFC develops its weaker areas in the next transfer windows.”
“Well done ETH for restoring Man Utd pride. If we finish in the top four it will be a great season, unlucky for Newcastle.”
“Thank you, Mr. Erik Ten Hag.
Thank you for changing Manchester United.
He’s done incredible things since he arrived. In so many ways.
Hopefully this leads to greater things.
Sympathy for Newcastle United. you will have your day
They have a fantastic football manager in Eddie Howe, he did an incredible job too.
“I remember being so disappointed as a boy when Newcastle’s superb side didn’t live up to themselves in the 1974 FA Cup Final.
They were a wonderful football club with incredible, passionate support until recently.
But since their takeover, they’ve become just another franchise that happens to wear stripes and is set in Newcastle.
I didn’t really care if they won or lost today.’
“Man Utd through and through but Newcastle fans were amazing even in the loss you will be in Europe next season.”
‘All quiet in Bigg Market tonight. The party is in Sunderland.’
“Everton fan – Congratulations to Man U. Exciting game. Thank you very much.’
“Delastic Newcastle fans. I’m enjoying this so much that NUFC fans think they have a divine right…’
“We have to remember that this is a year or two ahead of schedule for NUFC. It would have been nice to win but that and being in the league is a big step up. Any sort of European qualification would be a bonus this year and the plan is to progressively improve and develop players, including the academy, and add strategic purchases over time rather than buying success. Washing sports is not.’
“Man Utd have done the North East a favor. If the barcodes had won, they would have been unbearable. ETH continues to do a great job at OT and there will be many more trophies and achievements to come when the biggest club in the world returns.
“I have no association with the club or the region but I’ve liked every Geordie I’ve ever met and I think the Newcastle fans are the best in the country despite having had modest success on the pitch. Your manager is a great guy that every club would love to have.”
“All I wanted was a team I can be proud of when the new owners come on board.
“As a lifelong man utd fan I have been impressed by the huge Newcastle utd supporters, we needed that win but they will come back to Wembley more often than not, good luck in the future.”
“(Man) United fan but credit to Newcastle, they are a proper football club and Howe is a great manager. A few more decent transfer windows and they compete! Just missed a decent striker today.’
“It’s a rebuilding effort under Eddie Howe. The fact that they have achieved so much in such a short space of time this season is a credit to the hard work they have put in. You can be very proud of yourself.”
