Fascinating reading through these comments from ` Sport following Newcastle’s loss to Liverpool.
The comments from neutrals are particularly revealing…
A little different than what Newcastle United fans expected from ` Sport’s ‘neutrals’.
Neutrals’ ` Sport commentary in the past has been overwhelmingly a catalog of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.
Especially things about the owners of Newcastle United and the media-inspired hoaxes that NUFC fans have grown accustomed to when being blamed for who now owns their club.
However, this time politics is (almost) completely missing in the comments.
Instead we have trolls/mackems trying to shed light on Newcastle United not winning football games.
Some progress…
` Sport readers comment on neutrals, with Liverpool fans and the odd Newcastle supporter also contributing…
“Liverpool fan and delighted with the result but Newcastle played well – a great effort at 10 men for such a long period and could have made it interesting with a deserved goal even if we had been squandered.
The contrast between Newcastle slowly transitioning from takeover into a real team and Chelsea squandering money and expecting 11 people to perform well couldn’t be greater.
‘1. Tragic about Christian Atsu. 2. Congratulations to Bobby Robson, one of the nicest guys in football and a great manager. 3. Yeees Redmen! Forward and upward.’
“You got smashed and the same will happen next Sunday, now you don’t have a goalie hahahaha.”
“I thought Newcastle did well with 10 men.”
‘6 points ahead of Newcastle with the season they have will do for me. Controlled the game before being sent off.
Good luck to the toon for the next week. Every country except Devon and Cornwall wants you to win!’
“Stupid rule, you get sent off in the league and miss the cup final in another competition.”
‘Carragher gives Saint-Maximin man of the match… behave yourself!’
“Don’t think I’ve ever read such biased comments from cover to cover as Chris Waddle trotted out!
Even said it would have been a different result if the broadcaster hadn’t forgotten that Liverpool had already won!’
“Reds fan here. We were good but Newcastle, rise and bow. You were great!’
“Newcastle have lost two games in the league all season, both to the mighty Reds. FACT!’
‘FACT
0 goals in 70 minutes for Varpool vs 10 men.’
“A great result but well played Newcastle with 10 men and Alison had some great saves to make. I wish Newcastle every success against (man) united.’
“The headlines I want to see on the back cover of the tabloids every Monday week are:
Karius – from Zero to Hero and “Our Goalie Kari’d-Us to the Cup!”
“I always felt that Karius was hit hard in the CL final as he had played well for us before. I hope he takes his chance in another final and helps Newcastle to the cup.”
“Yes, he is a good goalkeeper. Top sport is inevitably a brutal business.
Good luck to him.’
‘Unfortunate today Newcastle……excellent performance for a 10-man team.’
‘As a neutral for the League Cup final.
Unavailable with Pope and tied Dubravka Cup. I would love to see Karius play and wield those demons from the Champions League final. Good luck to Newcastle, it would be nice to see their name on a trophy after so many years.
“Great win against a good Newcastle team. Quiet evening for the Nunez and Gakpo haters!’
“Stop selling our thugs to the Arabs.”
“Great to see Liverppol win but Newcastle played well with 10 men…I hope they beat Manu next week for all football fans.”
“This is a team that went under a little over a year ago. What they have achieved so far is appalling.”
‘Tip my Hut to Newcastle brought in some new players to mix in with good regulars from last season and even with 10 men they played well. Unlike Chelsea who are buying 11 players at exorbitant prices and not going anywhere!!’
‘Great game. Newcastle are a great side and gave Liverpool a game. Congratulations to the Reds.’
“They played better than us throughout the game. We banged them on the counter and were clinical. They fought hard as they dropped to 10 men.
You learn from failure and they will learn from it.’
“Good analysis. I was concerned about our lack of ability to capitalize when we got to the top and they downed a man. Newcastle are a good side but Real will be confident. But if we can score goals that quickly again, at least we’ll be dangerous again. Allison saved us today. Defense and midfield shouldn’t rely on the keeper making world champion saves all the time.
“Good luck to the Saudis against the Qataris next week.”
“Newcastle and Karius will do the country proud at Wembley next week.”
“Obviously will get the three points and there were some positive aspects. However, the ease with which teams, even ten men, end up in our box is worrying. There was still no press to speak of while Newcastle was on our faces. Five-yard passes going astray, losing second-ball challenges, and losing dogfights are a regular occurrence. And why Phillips isn’t playing and hapless Gomez, God knows.’
