Liverpool have agreed to sign Dutch striker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. say the Dutch clubs.
Gakpo, 23, had an impressive World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals as he helped the Netherlands reach the quarter-finals.
The fee for the winger is expected to be between €40m and €50m (£35.4m-44.3m).
According to PSV, Gakpo will travel to England to finalize the deal, adding it would be a record transfer for them.
Liverpool have made a move as strikers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have been on the sidelines for a long time.
Manchester United has been heavily associated with a move for Gakpo.
“PSV management finalized negotiations on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England,” the Eredivisie side said in a statement.
Gakpo has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists in 14 league games for PSV.
He has also scored three goals and provided two assists in five Europa League games.
At the World Cup, he scored in every group match in his country against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar.
Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Monday when they returned to the Premier League; Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team is sixth in the top division.
Reds defender Virgil van Dijk, a national team-mate, spoke enthusiastically about the winger during the World Cup.
“Hopefully Cody can fly to the moon and back,” said Van Dijk during the tournament in Qatar. “He’s a very good player and a good boy too.
“What we see in training, you also see on the pitch. There is still so much potential and I hope he can continue to show it for us. We are very happy with him.”
