Brighton 0-4 Manchester United: The Red Devils reach the Women's FA Cup semi-finals

Manchester United, who beat Chelsea in the 2022/23 final, have reached the semi-finals of the Women's FA Cup for the first time in two consecutive seasons

Manchester United beat Brighton, also from the Women's Super League, and secured a place in the semi-finals of the Women's FA Cup.

Two early goals put the visitors on course for victory, with Millie Turner giving them the lead after just eight minutes when she nodded in a well-timed shot from Katie Zelem.

Nine minutes later, Nikita Parris doubled his lead, receiving a through ball from Melvine Malard before sliding a shot past Sophie Baggaley at the near post.

Brighton had some promising moments but ended up second best and were three goals down at half-time when Lucia Garcia put the ball over the line after Malard's shot bounced off the post.

Marc Skinner's side remained in control and struck again when Lisa Naalsund made up for her earlier miss by firing home from the edge of the area as Brighton failed to clear a set-piece.

United, last year's FA Cup runners-up, will find out their semi-final opponents in Tuesday's draw, which takes place at around 08:20 GMT during the ` Radio 5 Live Breakfast.

Acting Brighton boss Mikey Harris suffered one 0-2 defeat against United in his first game in charge last month.

Once again the Seagulls were completely outclassed by a United side who, after taking advantage, rose to a position of control and played confident football while nullifying their hosts' efforts.

United were also disciplined and regularly forced Baggaley into saves, directing Hannah Blundell's half-volley over the crossbar and reacting quickly to keep out an acrobatic effort from Malard.

Brighton's options were limited and they failed to test Mary Earps before half-time, with blocked shots the closest they came to finding a way back.

Brighton were shaken by United's early breakthrough and failed to improve in the second half. Baggaley had to parry Malard again and turn a curling Parris shot around the post.

The guests finally scored their fourth goal and strolled towards victory.

The win was United's first in three games after the team then fell off the pace in the league Lost to Arsenal And Drawing with West Ham.

They are unlikely to finish higher than fourth in the WSL, but being just one game away from a possible Wembley final adds a ray of hope to an otherwise uninspiring season.
