With Georgia #1 dominating the #3 TCU on the field in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Bulldogs’ social media team decided to insult the injury with “Hypnodawg,” a parody of the TCU video, “Hypnotoad.” ‘, made famous during the magical season of the Horned Frogs. The tweet came out early in the third quarter following Stetson Bennett’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Brock Bowers, who made the score 45-7 in Georgia’s favour.
TCU’s Cinderella storyline was accompanied by what quickly became a weird viral sensation. After each win, the TCU Football social media team posted a crazy Hypnotoad video featuring the creature, along with memes and videos mocking the opponent. Here’s the one from TCU’s College Football Playoff Semifinals win over Michigan:
“Hypnotoad is a character who appears in the sci-fi cartoon Futurama, and Hypnotoad is a toad who has the power to use hypnosis to make you believe whatever he wants to believe,” said Eric Kaplan, creator of Hypnotoad , to CBS News .
Horned Frogs supporters certainly had reason to believe in the powers of Hypnotoad during their impressive run to the national championship, especially after last year’s 5-7 and several unlikely comebacks this season, their first under new coach Sonny Dykes. However, Georgia finished that early Monday night having the last laugh both on the field and on social media.
