KAWASAKI, Japan – Before a quarterback clinic at Japan's Fujitsu Stadium, former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck took time to talk about other aspects of his life and the current state of the Colts and football in general:

When asked if there was a chance given veteran Joe Flacco's comeback last season… “You don't even have to finish the question,” Luck said. “No, not in my life.”
About flag football at the Olympics
Luck said he welcomed the addition of flag football to the Olympics, noting that it has become an official high school sport for girls in California, where Steve Young coaches his daughters' team.
“I think it’s great,” he said. “I think our sport needs to continue to find ways to make it accessible to more people to ensure the long-term health of the sport. For sport in general in the world, there is hardly a bigger platform than the Olympic Games.”
About the balance between violence in football and security
Given his own history of injuries, Luck said there needs to be a balance between ensuring the sport's safety and appeal to fans who longed for a return to the NFL's more violent days.
“I think there will always be a constant tension, as there should be, between conservatism and preserving part of what makes football – any sport, really – and developing and making the game safe,” Luck said. “I think we need to evolve. We must continue to use our scientific and medical knowledge and data to make the game safer. It’s important for the athlete, it’s important for the overall health of the game.”
Good luck on the Colts
Regarding his former team, Luck said that he continues to follow the Colts and keeps in touch with old teammates.
“I am a football fan. I'm interested in football – college, NFL, and of course I still have friends on the Colts that I cheer for. (General Manager) Chris Ballard is a close friend of mine. Quentin Nelson, Ryan.” Kelly, Braden Smith, Rigoberto Sanchez. It’s always fun to cheer on a friend’s success.”
Lucky for Anthony Richardson
Looking ahead, he sees great potential in last year's top draft pick Anthony Richardson, who missed much of last season due to injury.
“I think Anthony Richardson has a great chance,” Luck said. “I hope he stays healthy and plays and continues to develop. The little bits I've seen from him show he's a dynamic player. It will continue to grow and yes, I look forward to its future.”
