They controlled the action in the early stages of that game as Leipzig rarely ventured beyond their own half and after Riyad Mahrez scored it seemed only a question of how many more goals City would score.
But despite their possession dominance, City found it difficult to create too many chances, not helped by Kevin de Bruyne’s absence through illness.
Erling Haaland struggled to impress on his return to Germany but really should have scored with one of his few chances in the second half as he rushed forward before veering his shot wide of target.
But while City may be frustrated at not clinching a win, they will be confident of getting the job done at the Etihad, where they have won 17 of their 19 games this season.
