At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Aim not only wants to present the striking design of its new electric vehicle concept, but also show what the car can actually do.
The Japanese motorsport company plans to tackle the event’s famous hill next week with its new EV Sport 01 Concept. So confident is the brand in the battery-powered coupe’s capabilities that CEO Yukinori Suzuki plans to get behind the wheel for the timed drive around the twisty 1.16-mile route.
Of course, any discussion of the concept must begin with its distinctive appearance. According to Car and Driver, the car was designed by Shiro Nakamura, who was chief design officer at Nissan from 1999 to 2017. If you’re familiar with his work – which includes the R35-generation GT-R – you’ll immediately recognize the coupe’s clean, flowing lines. The low-profile vehicle is relatively compact, measuring less than 13 feet bumper-to-bumper, and should slice through the air with ease. Refined details like a perforated grille and a striking pair of butterfly doors add even more flair to the design.
Aim EV Sport 01 concept

The minimalism of the exterior translates into a leather-trimmed interior that’s relatively spartan compared to most production EVs. Notably, there’s no infotainment screen on the two-seater’s center console, although the cockpit features digital gauges to help the driver monitor the vehicle and the journey.
The EV Sport 01 is powered by a dual motor powertrain that delivers 483 hp and 546 Nm of torque to the rear axle. That’s right, this battery-powered sports car features rear-wheel drive rather than four-wheel drive like so many of its all-electric peers. The setup gets its juice from an 81kWh lithium-ion battery pack split into four packs. Range is an unimpressive 186 miles per charge, according to Motor1.com, but that shouldn’t matter when cruising uphill. The total weight of the battery packs is balanced by an aluminum frame and liberal use of carbon fiber, giving the EV a curb weight of just 3,142 pounds.
Inside the EV Sport 01
Goal
The EV Sport 01 may have made its debut at the beginning of spring, but next week it will present its biggest highlight so far. The reaction could also influence whether the concept ever becomes a reality. Aim has yet to announce plans to build a production version of the vehicle, but has admitted it is at least exploring the possibility. Stay tuned.
