The revamped concept retailer, which had its grand opening on Friday, now features multiple immersive sports arenas including a climbing wall, batting cages, interactive golf games and a soccer zone.
The renovated space is one of two in the Houston area, said Clayton Barnes, executive director of Dick’s House of Sport, while also reopening the company’s Baybrook location as the House of Sport.
“We wanted to be on both sides of Houston so we could bring the House of Sport experience across the city,” Barnes said.
In order to be able to carry out the renovation work, the building was closed for six months and underwent an extensive conversion. Field and Stream, Dick’s area dedicated to outdoor gear, has been completely removed to restructure the space with a full focus on sports.
The new space features a 35-foot rock wall and a multi-purpose sports cage with interactive baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey and soccer games.

“It’s a fully immersive interactive retail environment. The idea is not just to create a place where you can shop, but where you can get involved and have fun and bring the whole family,” Barnes said.
The store is designed to allow buyers to try out potential gear before making a purchase.
“For example, you can try on cleats in our ‘House of Cleats’ area and go straight to the batting cage to try them on,” Barnes said.
Even visitors not looking for new equipment can enjoy the amenities.
The cliff can be rented for $10 for 15 minutes, Barnes said, and the new feature is already being well received by buyers.
“We had people ranging in age from six to 88, and the 88-year-old actually made it to the top of the cliff, which was very impressive given the three stories,” he said.

The batting cages are interactive with digital gameplay, and while the cages are free for customers trying products, they can also be rented for $20 for 30 minutes or $30 for an entire hour.
The retailer has scheduled monthly events including indoor Spartan races, family field days and athletic clinics.
Eagle-eyed Houston-area residents might even spot a Dick’s House of Sport airship circling in the sky.
To celebrate the reopenings, the airship will continue to fly over Houston and surrounding areas, appearing over Dick’s Sporting Goods events, the Houston Astros and Dynamo games, the Concacaf Gold Cup and various concerts and festivals, a Dick’s Sporting representative said Goods.
