Aaron Rodgers’ NY Jets debut slated for Monday Night Football; League reveals kickoff game teams and more

With the NBA and NHL playoffs in full swing, the NFL is making headlines today as the league announces its 2023 game schedule. A few games have been hinted ahead of the 5pm release of the full schedule, and here’s a look at what we know so far (all Pacific Rim times for brevity).

The annual kickoff game sees the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the rising Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, September 7 at 5:20 p.m. on NBC. The first Monday Night Football game of the season on ESPN will be an AFC East game, with the Buffalo Bills visiting the New York Jets on September 11 at 5:15 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. It will be future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers’ first game for the Gotham club after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

Also announced today on NBC is a week five Sunday Night Football game where the San Francisco 49ers will host the Dallas Cowboys on October 8 at 5:20 p.m. at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and a Christmas game between the Chiefs at 10 p.m. on CBS and Nickelodeon and Las Vegas Raiders from Arrowhead Stadium.

The league announced Wednesday that in its first Black Friday game on November 24 at 12 noon, the Miami Dolphins will take on archrivals the New York Jets. Prime Video will stream it for free, even for non-subscribers – a first for a US-based NFL game.
