LAVONIA, Georgia — Mark Ruel, Jr. used his pole position to jump to the lead at turn one and led every lap of the 30-lap USCS Georgia State Championship race at Lavonia Speedway on Friday night.
Ruel was challenged early in the race by Morgan Havener, a front row starter, before her night ended with a mechanical failure. After Havener left the race, her teammate and 13-time USCS National Champion Terry Gray moved into second place to chase Ruel. Eric Riggins Jr. slipped past Gray but was unable to gain ground on the leader until a restart with three laps to go.
At the last restart, Ruel extended a five car length lead while Riggins held off Gray for second place. Terry Witherspoon followed Gray in fourth place and Jeffrey Newell in the top five drivers.
