PORT ROYAL, Penn. – Logan Wagner held off the field and rapidly deflating his right rear tire to take victory in Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car competition on Saturday night.
The win was Wagner’s fifth win of the season at the Juniata County Oval and was worth $5,000 as part of the track’s Open Wheel Madness presented by Bobby Rahal Toyota.
Dylan Cisney, Blane Heimbach, Mike Wagner and Devon Borden completed the top five.
Ryan Taylor and Mike Walter II lined up in the front row for the A-Main. It was Taylor who led the field of 24 sprint cars to the finish after the first lap via fourth place starter Jeff Halligan.
Taylor strode through the field early but gave way to an oncoming Halligan out of turn four with 19 laps to go. Taylor stayed within striking distance of Halligan in the following round, but both win streaks would end before another round could be completed.
Lapped driver Austin Burke was flipped between turns one and two, leaving both drivers with nowhere to go. Halligan almost slipped past the outside but suffered front end damage and Taylor also slid sideways into Burke. Both cars would not return to the field.
Their misfortune turned out to be Walter’s luck as he got the lead as a result. It was he who led the field back to the Green Flag action over Heimbach and Wagner. His lead was short-lived, however, as it took Heimbach just three laps to overtake Walter for the top spot.
Walter chased Heimbach through the next six laps before vying for top spot with eleven laps to go. As the leaders raced against lapped traffic, Walter on the backstetch crashed into the rear end of a lapped car and the contact caused damage to the front end.
He tried to regain his composure, but the damage caused him to wheelie down the front stretch and he entered the infield in second. After Walter went off the track, Logan Wagner, who started sixth, took second place and set his sights on Heimbach.
Eighth-place starter Dylan CIsney was also on the move, taking the final podium position with nine laps to go. It took just four more laps for Wagner to pass Heimbach for top spot, with Cisney catching up three laps later.
Wagner took the checkered with a margin of 0.692 seconds.
