Leading form analyst Dean Watling has identified two horses that he believes represent good value in the futures markets.
Watling likes the stallion trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy Blue layer in the coming Inglis Millennium.
Blue Stratum, who has raced twice for a second and a fourth, last raced on December 9 but will be back on track at the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield this Friday.
“I want to mention two who came out purely from the trials,” Watling said on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“One is Blue Stratum, the two-year-old Blue Point colt. He tested on the new indoor track at Cranbourne last week.
“He made about $15 to $17 at Inglis Millennium. I think this is a great opportunity. He was beaten by Odinson (at Inglis Nursery), which is between $4.5 and $5 in this market.
“We’ll see him in the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield this Friday and then he’ll be aiming for second place in the Inglis Millennium.
“If he wins anywhere close or wins this weekend, I think $15-$17 will be a lot shorter.”
The son of Blue Point currently has a $15 chance at Sportsbet for the Inglis Millennium, which takes place in Randwick on February 10.
The other horse that likes Watling is Learn to fly in the Surround Stakes.
Annabel Neasham's three-year-old filly won her first three career starts before losing her rider in the Golden Slipper in March last year.
She hasn't raced since and, according to Watling, has become a good value for that reason.
“The second thing is learning to fly,” he added.
“The Surround Stakes market is closed and she made a profit of $9 to $11.
“I would say if we saw her in the spring she would clearly be the favorite for this race, so I think there is a good lead there.
“We didn’t see them in the spring, but looking at their tests we can predict improvement.”
Learning To Fly is currently priced at $11 at Sportsbet for the Surround Stakes at Randwick on March 2.
