Nancy Orr was called He will become vice president of investments and CIO of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation effective November 1. Orr succeeds Jay Flaherty, who has served as CIO since 2007 and will continue to serve the Mott Foundation to support the transition until his retirement in January 2024.
“We are pleased that Nancy Orr has agreed to lead our investment team,” Ridgway White, president and CEO of the Mott Foundation, said in a statement. “She combines experience as a CIO and a Passionate about investing with equal enthusiasm for advancing the Foundation’s mission to promote a fair, equal and sustainable society. I am confident that Nancy is the right person to help the Foundation prepare to begin our second century of grantmaking.”
Orr has more than 20 years of investment experience. Previously, she was CIO of Fiduciary Counseling Inc., a St. Paul, Minnesota-based financial advisory firm with more than $11 billion in assets under management. She was also a senior investment officer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a consultant at Boston Consulting Group.
Orr earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Duke University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

I look forward to leveraging my expertise alongside the talented team here to maximize returns that support the foundation’s charitable goals.”
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is a private nonprofit foundation based in Flint, Michigan. According to the foundation’s website, in 2022 the foundation awarded 385 grants worth more than $187 million and had assets of nearly $4 billion. The foundation awards grants through four programs: civil society, education, environment and Flint area.
