The memorial service for the late former President Jiang Zemin tomorrow morning will be live-streamed to community centers in 18 districts, authorities have announced.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Jiang, who died in Shanghai on November 30 at the age of 96, is scheduled to be cremated today at Beijing’s Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery.
To ensure the safe and smooth conduct of a “special event,” the Beijing municipal government said traffic control measures will be implemented tomorrow from 6:30 a.m. on Fuxing Road and Shijingshan Road from Wukesong Bridge to the south entrance of Shangzhuang Street.
Except for vehicles and personnel with special permission for the event, others are not allowed to pass or park.
Jiang’s coffin is temporarily stationed at the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital on Fuxing Road.
The Hong Kong government said community halls and district offices across the area will open tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to allow the public to watch the commemorations live.
National flags and regional flags in all government departments, including offices outside Hong Kong, are flown at half-staff.
An earlier announcement by Jiang’s funeral committee said people across the country will remain silent for three minutes during the ceremony.
Central government offices will broadcast the service live and staff will observe a three-minute silence at the same time. All government ships will honk their horns for three minutes.
Entertainments and celebrations organized or funded by the government are postponed or cancelled. The government appealed to industry associations and organizations to postpone or cancel all entertainment and celebrations planned for tomorrow.
Hong Kong Disneyland said its shows would not feature pyrotechnics “out of respect”.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced the suspension of Hong Kong WinterFest and Christmas Town in West Kowloon Cultural District will also be closed.
China’s securities and futures markets said they will suspend trading for three minutes during the commemoration.
According to the People’s Bank of China, the interbank bond market, money market, foreign exchange market, exchange market and gold market will be temporarily suspended for three minutes during the ceremony.
