Examination training for the National Board of Revenue’s income tax officials began today.
The European Union-funded six-day training consists of five different courses, the NBR said in a statement.

The training was said to be organized for NBR’s income tax officials, who already have extensive experience in the role of auditing large, complex companies and industries.
In recent years, audits have been developed by the tax administration as a very useful tool to improve compliance and improve collections, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmutal Muneem said at the program.
“Tax administration today is completely dependent on reliable and robust systems. NBR has made significant progress in tax collection and we must move forward with greater in-house capabilities to make a greater contribution.”
“However, due to a lack of sufficient manpower and other resources, the audit processes cannot cover the entire taxpayer population. Therefore, it has become necessary to develop the capacity of our own officials to achieve better results with the resources available,” he said.
These pre-audit courses will improve tax officials’ ability to conduct audit activities more efficiently and increase audit revenues, Muneem said.
The NBR Member Tax Administration and HRM Shaheen Akhter said the courses cater to the specific needs of officials to work more efficiently.
NBR Member and TA Focal Point Jahid Hasan said the training would cover financial audits, tax audits in computerized accounting environments and a particular focus on conducting tax audits in the banking, insurance and telecommunications industries in Bangladesh.
The trainings will be presented by the resources specialized in relevant areas, Hasan said.
Jurate Smalskyte Melville, Guest of Honor and Acting Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Bangladesh, also spoke.
