ICE reports record number of open futures and options with record trading activity in global commodity markets

LONDON & AMSTERDAM & NEW YORK, January 29, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE), a global leader in technology and data, today announced that its global futures and options markets Open interest reached a record 87.2 million contracts as of January 25, 2024, with ICE's commodity futures and options markets reaching a record open interest of 61.5 million contracts.

ICE's energy futures and options portfolio recorded a record open interest value of 56 million contracts on January 24, 2024, while ICE's energy futures reached a record open interest value of 33 million contracts, the highest since June 2021. ICE TTF natural gas futures and options reached a record open interest of 3.6 million contracts, a 93% increase compared to the same period last year.

On January 18, 2024, ICE achieved a series of daily volume records in its options markets, surpassing records last set in February 2017, including record commodity options volume of 1.8 million, record energy options volume of 1.7 million, and record volume on the ICE natural gas options markets 1.5 million contracts. On the same day, ICE's Henry Hub natural gas options reached a record volume of 1.4 million contracts, up 58% year over year. ICE's Henry Hub market offers clients the most liquid markets to manage longer-term exposure to U.S. natural gas prices, with participants attracted by liquidity available through October 2033.
