Falling bank rates prompt Rs. 4 billion IPO of Almas Holdings – The Island

The Occidental Eden Beruwala is the latest addition to the Barceló Hotel Group portfolio in Sri Lanka. Occidental Eden Beruwala, formerly known as Eden Resort and Spa, Beruwala, is owned by Browns Investments and managed by the world-renowned Barceló Hotel Group under the Occidental brand. The Occidental Eden Beruwala opened its doors in May 2023 after completing a major refurbishment that included a total redesign of all 158 guest rooms, common areas and guest facilities at a cost of Rs. 1.5 billion.

Located on the pristine, sun-kissed beaches of Sri Lanka’s south-west coast on a stretch known as the ‘Golden Mile’ in Beruwala, the Occidental Eden Beruwala has been redesigned to offer modern comfort and luxury, taking into account the evolving needs of the discerning traveler offer. The new unique design features of the Occidental Eden Beruwala are inspired by the art, culture and beautiful landscapes of Sri Lanka, while the resort-style ambiance creates an idyllic setting for a truly unforgettable island vacation.

The Occidental Eden Beruwala is the second hotel managed by the Barceló Hotel Group in Sri Lanka after the opening of the Occidental Paradise Dambulla in 2021, a 67-room 4-star hotel in the cultural hub of Dambulla. The management of both hotels in Sri Lanka is the result of an agreement signed by the Barceló Hotel Group in 2019 with Browns Investments, a subsidiary of the LOLC Group. This agreement also covers the management of two newly built hotels in the Maldives: a spectacular 100-villa resort on Bodufinolhu Island, scheduled to open in August 2023, and an urban hotel in Malé, the country’s capital, scheduled to open in 2024. The agreement also includes the future development of a complex of three 5-star hotels in North Male Atoll, also in the Maldives.

On the occasion of the official relaunch of Occidental Eden Beruwala, Suresh Athukorala – Cluster General Manager of Occidental Hotels in Sri Lanka said: “We have made a significant investment to improve the standards of our facilities at Occidental Eden Beruwala.” While we look to the future we look forward to capitalizing on the promising prospects of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. Forecasts indicate a steady increase in traveler arrivals over the next 12 to 18 months. With our enhanced amenities and dedicated staff, we invite our guests to immerse themselves in the unparalleled hospitality that Eden has to offer.

Adrian Jansz, Director of Sales and Marketing at Occidental Hotels in Sri Lanka, also said on the occasion: “The relaunch of Occidental Eden Beruwala is an example of the Barceló Hotel Group’s unwavering commitment to continuous innovation.” With this endeavor, we don’t want to not only raise the standards of hospitality, but also position Sri Lanka as a leading global tourist destination. Partnering with Browns Investments as owner of the property has further strengthened our ability to provide seamless management and exceptional hospitality, ensuring a smooth and flawless guest experience. Together we embark on a remarkable journey of excellence. Our goal is to attract discerning mid- to high-end travelers and provide them with an exceptional experience that they will cherish.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the collaboration between Browns Investments and Mr. David Fernandez, Area Manager Asia at Barceló Hotel Group, he said: “Barceló Group is delighted to strengthen its partnership with Browns Investments and looks forward to an exciting new chapter with the Occidental Eden Beruwala. Going forward, the Barceló Hotel Group is committed to expanding its presence in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, recognizing the huge potential and opportunities these destinations offer. Together with Browns Investments, we embark on an exciting journey of growth, innovation and learning.”
