AL Cy Young and NL ROTY are open for business

As we move into the second half of the MLB season, the competition for the league’s top honors intensifies.

One award that’s particularly difficult to predict this year is the AL Cy Young. Houston Astros pitcher Framber Valdez is currently attending +200 as a favorite for the award. One of his main contenders is the New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole. While Valdez has been solid, it’s difficult to ignore the magnetic pull of a big player like Cole. He has shown some signs of slowing down after his electrifying start to the season, but Cole’s experience and track record could tip the odds in his favour.

Still, it’s not just a two-man race. Kevin Gausman, the Toronto Blue Jays’ standout pitcher, made a compelling case for himself. Gausman’s rise this season was notable and his performance improved as the season progressed. While Cole may have faltered a bit after a strong start, Gausman was a paragon of consistency.

With the unfortunate injury of the Tampa Bay Rays Shane McClanahan, the race for AL Cy Young is wide open. If asked to steer him in one direction, given his steady uptrend this season, he’d likely go in the Gausman direction.

Meanwhile it is NL Rookie of the Year Competition is also intensifying in the National League. Even if you’ve played fewer games, you shouldn’t write off Ellie Cross still. His high run rate, WOBA and WRC+ scores make him a compelling competitor.

However, the clear favorite remains Corbin Carroll. Carroll has always been the favorite for NL Rookie of the Year. With De La Cruz’s impressive stats, he will bring Carroll’s odds closer to breakeven, creating an excellent opportunity for bettors. Carroll is currently at -360, with De La Cruz behind at +280.

Betting odds may not always reflect on-pitch performances, but this can provide observant fans and bettors with an opportunity to spot underrated players. As the second half of the season unfolds, the true contenders for these awards will emerge, adding even more excitement to an already exciting MLB season.
