The Bears started the 2022-23 season on a positive note with a 19-10 home win over the San Francisco 49ers in wet conditions.
Ahead of their visit to Green Bay in Week 2 for a matchup with the Packers on Sunday Night Football, we take a moment to examine updates on the Bears’ various futures markets — total winnings, props, etc. — to determine if The bears can add value as the season progresses.
So let’s get straight to the different markets. The odds are conflicting at the time of writing and are subject to fluctuations.
I know the Bears only need six more wins to get by over here, but I still think their cap this season is six wins.
Despite the Bears clinching a 19-10 win on Sunday, the expected scoring total was 0.67-11.26, according to pro-football-reference.com. Even if you only consider yards/play, Chicago was outperformed on this metric by San Francisco, 4.9 to 3.6.
Chicago didn’t fare much better offensively. According to footballoutsiders.com, they ranked 25th in overall offensive DVOA in Week 1 of a season, after being league-wide 26th in that category. Also, it finished 32nd out of 32 in terms of overall offensive length in the opening game.
Well, the latter metric can largely be attributed to the fact that the Bears played in less than ideal weather conditions, but those defensive performances leave a lot to be desired for the Bears. Since the Bears don’t get these kinds of weather conditions every game, I expect the difference between these two units will become even more apparent as the season progresses.
In my opinion, the Bears will be favorites in – at most – four games for the remainder of the season, so I tend to skew down for the updated season totals. That means I need +100 or more to enter, so I’m staying away at the current price.
