KUALA LUMPUR — China’s economy is unlikely to recover anytime soon because President Xi Jinping’s inner circle is made up largely of apparatchiks rather than technocrats who have the know-how to revive sluggish growth, the well-known China warns -Observer Willy Lam.
The downturn in the world’s second-largest economy is likely to be exacerbated by Xi’s policy of prioritizing geopolitics and national security over economics amid increasing competition from the US and its Western allies, says Lam, author of the new book Xi Jinping: The Hidden Agendas of China’s Ruler for Life”, published last week.
