SAINT ANTONY – There has been a lot of discussion about the economy, interest rates and jobs, but what impact are we seeing here in our community?
Adrian Lopez, CEO of Workforce Solutions Alamo, joined Leading SA to explain the employment landscape and people search programs.
“Today we have around 4% unemployment. Before the pandemic, it was about three and a half percent. We’re seeing strong growth in all of the major industries that we actually support. If you look at Texas, we are on par with Texas in terms of the unemployment rate from around May 2021 to May 2022. Texas created about 750,000 jobs locally, here we probably created about 50 plus a thousand jobs. And there’s a lot of really great gains across all sectors that we support,” Lopez said.
In some parts of the country, there are more people than jobs. There seems to be a skills gap here in our field.

“In this region, we actually have a 1 to 5 ratio, which means that for someone who retires, there are actually five people available to fill those positions. But again, it’s really about a skill gap,” Lopez said.
San Antonio is one of the parts of the country that has benefited the most over the past two years as more businesses move and expand here. This influx of opportunities has led to more jobs.
“We benefit from companies locating from other parts of the country and even from abroad. I think in Texas and where last year we had about 70 big companies that moved to Texas for that area… They create a couple of thousand jobs over the next 12 to 18 months. And these are really high-paying, high-paying jobs,” Lopez said.
To help as many families as possible, there is a new partnership between Workforce Solutions Alamo and the San Antonio Food Bank.

“We see the number of thousands of people queuing to seek food aid and it is in our time and our most vulnerable that we want to be. And that is exactly what this partnership represents. The power of the partnership between Workforce Solutions Alamo and the San Antonio Food Bank. So we have a satellite office operating there now. So when people receive groceries and sign up for benefits, they also have an opportunity to actually receive services from Workforce Solutions Alamo,” Lopez said.
If you are looking for a job, there is a unique job fair called Red, White, and You. You can find more information about the job fair HERE.
