White House’s Deese says a strong dollar reflects the strength of the US economy

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) – More than ever, the strength of the US dollar is reflecting the relative strength of the US economy, White House economic adviser Brian Deese told reporters on Tuesday.

“In a highly uncertain global environment … what we are seeing reinforces the unique position of strength that the US economy is in, notwithstanding the complexity of our recovery,” Deese told reporters after a Washington, DC event hosted by the Economic Club .

Asked if he was concerned about spillovers from weaker economies elsewhere in the United States, Deese mentioned Europe, Britain and China and said the Biden administration is paying “a lot of attention” to pockets of “particular weakness” in global growth trajectory.
