EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – The annual bowl season meetings come to a close Wednesday evening in the Borderland. For the first time, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl welcomed hundreds of people to the annual bowl season gatherings, which bring tens of thousands of dollars to the El Paso economy.
All major bowl representatives, including the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Sugar Bowl, spent the last three days here in El Paso for the annual convention
Representatives from all 43 bowl games were here at 915, with events at the El Paso Convention Center and the Paso Del Norte Hotel.
One of the other bowl games in our Southwest region, the Arizona Bowl in Tucson, hosted the New Mexico State football team and always tries to attract borderland teams to their game.
AZ Bowl Executive Director Kym Adair, who attended the conference in El Paso, said, “What we loved about Tucson was the four-hour drive of all the people who could come visit us and come to Tucson and get excited.” New Mexico State, I feel like someone turned the lights off in Las Cruces.”
Bernie Olivas, executive director of the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, which hosts the big convention, said: “It’s pretty big. We have Los Angeles, last year we were in Nashville, we were in Orlando, we were there.” Houston, San Antonio, everywhere, but for this to come to El Paso is huge, not just for the Sun Bowl, but for the whole city.”
