On Tuesday, August 29, the President of the Iranian regime, Ebrahim Raisi, once again set a new record of lies and insolence in a press conference. While economists and regime experts are warning of the destruction of economic fundamentals and the general public is in the most difficult and grim living situation, Raisi claimed that economic indicators in all areas have been growing and evolving.
Raisi claimed the manufacturing inflation rate fell to 30 percent from 103 percent, the inflation rate in machinery production fell to 19 percent, and output growth was 6 percent. He added that all indicators show growth, effort and progress. He also claimed that the unemployment rate, which worried many, rose to 8.2 percent, and the authorities of 23 provinces announced that the unemployment rate had completely changed.
However, Raisi could not claim that the price of any product has fallen or remained constant as people feel price increases and inflationary pressures every day.
Even the statistics manipulated by the regime’s institutions and reported by state media show the opposite of what he claims. An infographic report by state online company Etamed shows the following price increases for 12 staple foods: poultry up 203 percent, meat up 318 percent, cooking oil up 328 percent, pasta up 283 percent, sugar up 253 percent, yogurt up 307 percent and eggs up 161 percent.
On June 13, the state-run Hammihan newspaper interviewed Saeed Leilaz, an economist close to the regime, who warned that the volume of currency liquidity created in the 23 months of the Raisis government was the same ratio since Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (19th century) until during the reign of Hassan Rouhani. Worse, Leilaz warned that two-thirds of said liquidity was created by bank imbalances and corruption in the financial network. He described this liquidity as a complete and wholesale robbery of the Iranian nation.
The situation is so dire that Ahmad Alamalhoda, the leader of Friday prayers in Mashhad and Raisi’s father-in-law, while boasting about Raisi’s alleged achievements, inevitably admitted that people’s livelihoods were not stable and that no improvement could be expected tomorrow.
On August 25, Mohammad Ali Nekonam, head of Shahrecord’s Friday prayers, who also sought to positively impact Raisi’s economic performance, said, “These are things to say to the public.”
Raisi wasn’t shy about claiming to have solved the water and electricity crisis in his relentless lies, but said, “We’ve had 22,000 megawatts of electricity imbalance to date, and now 7,000 megawatts of imbalance have been resolved… Out of 10,000 villages.” had water tension, the problem of 3,500 of them was solved.”
Even if the figures from Raisi are to be believed, these statements mean that 15,000 megawatts of electricity are missing and 6,500 villages are still suffering from dehydration and thirst.

This isn’t the first time Raisi has responded to questions with reverse rhetoric. In his first press conference after becoming president, when asked by a foreign reporter about his role in the 1988 massacre, Raisi said his actions were consistent with human rights defenses.
No matter how hard Raisi tries to reverse the truth, all these reversals are nothing more than a sign of helplessness and fear of the impending prospect of a coup.
