First Minister publishes first government programme.
Plans to reduce poverty, boost economic growth, tackle climate change and provide quality public services will be at the heart of Prime Minister Humza Yousaf’s first government program to be released this week.
In a statement to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, First Minister Humza Yousaf will set out how his government will make key investments in poverty reduction and growth to help fulfill three national missions – equality, equal opportunities and community – which together work to build a… a better world, greener and more prosperous Scotland.
The Government Program 2023–24 details how the Scottish Government will build on key partnerships – including the Verity House agreement with local authorities and the New Deal for Business – to create a welfare economy that boosts economic growth and high-quality public services provides services and values well-paid and fair jobs.
Before presenting his first government program, First Minister Humza Yousaf said:
“It is the honor of my life to serve Scotland as First Minister. I am committed to making Scotland a country where people, communities and businesses can reach their full potential and create a better future for all.
“This is my first Government program and over the coming days I will set out the ambitious plans my Government has for the people of Scotland – plans focused on reducing poverty, creating growth, tackling… Addressing climate change and providing quality public focus services.
“These are the areas that matter most to people, communities and businesses across the country. We are in the midst of a cost of living crisis that is hitting the most vulnerable in our society hardest – communities that have suffered for too long from UK government cuts.
“The government I lead will remain focused on protecting our public services and enhancing our support to help build a stronger economy and a fairer society.” That ambition is the only way to bring about real, positive change for the people bring people across the country.”

The Government Program 2023-24 will be released alongside the First Minister’s statement to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 5 September.
This program for the government will build on the prospectus paper “New Leadership – A New Beginning”. This was released in April, shortly after the appointment of the First Minister, and set out its three national missions: Equality, Equal Opportunity and Community.
