PMO proposes the establishment of policy-making powers to improve the maritime economy

TEHRAN – The head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) said that in order to realize the goals of the maritime economy, it is necessary to form an integrated authority in the form of a top policy-making institution.

“In this context, the Working Group on Maritime Economy was formed by the First Vice President in the presence of the relevant Ministers and the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Urban Development; In this working group, coastal and maritime development plans will be defined,” Ali-Akbar Safaei told IRIB.

“We are trying to increase the share of the maritime economy in the country by implementing various industrial, housing and agricultural projects and developing coastal transit and logistics infrastructure,” he said.

The official stressed that the creation of a comprehensive roadmap for the maritime economy represents a turning point in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran, pointing out that the 13th administration has pursued extensive plans to develop the maritime economy in the country.
