Economic Overview of the Grundy Resiliency Project to Build a More Diverse Economy – Shaw Local

The Grundy Resiliency Project has completed an economic overview that will now be used as a tool to create a roadmap to build a more diverse economy for Grundy County.

The economic overview was completed in September by the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute.

The organizations behind the Grundy Resiliency Project, the Grundy Economic Development Council and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry, invite the public to view the details of this overview in a virtual presentation on Wednesday, November 29th at 8:30 a.m to listen Register for this virtual meeting and visit resilientgrundy.com.

“The data in this economic overview report will serve as a solid foundation upon which to build a strategic plan to diversify the Grundy economy. “It confirms much of what we already know about our happiness, but the data also reveals some trends that we need to keep an eye on as we work to continue to provide a good quality of life for Grundy residents,” he said GEDC President & CEO Nancy Norton said.

This economic study is part of the GEDC and Grundy Chamber Resilience Project. The organizations received a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration late last year. These grants help nuclear power sites plan and build more diverse and resilient economies. Grundy’s grant is matched at 20% by Grundy County, with the North Central Council of Governments assisting as grant administrator.

The grant focuses on regions with nuclear power plants and provides local entities with funding to assess economic impacts, diversify competition, decommissioning issues and build community capacity.

The research team examined and assessed local and national indicators and provided detailed insights on the region’s wealth rankings, top industries, wages of current and new jobs, occupations, commuting patterns, inequality, education, benefits received, broadband access, housing affordability and rent Market, tenant affordability and an analysis of economic contribution.

The comprehensive economic overview is now available on the Grundy Resiliency Project website, resilientgrundy.com. The GEDC and the Chamber will also present the overview to local community boards and councils.

The scope of the project is more than 24 months and includes future steps such as conducting a broadband analysis, studying the decommissioning process of nuclear power plants and developing a roadmap of opportunities for Grundy.
