An MSNBC headline on Wednesday said President Biden’s economy was “booming” despite low approval ratings.

In the clip shared by the outlet, MSNBC host Medhi Hasan described reports in January that the economy had grown 5.7 percent in 2021 and wages had risen.

“We’re doing pretty well as a country overall. Especially compared to where we were not too long ago,” Hasan said. “But with the headlines dominating business news right now, you might not know that.”

The MSNBC host continued to take note of reports of inflation, which hit a 40-year high in February, rising to 7.9 percent. Hasan said “everything costs more” and reported that gas prices are costing Americans in particular, which averages $4.25 a gallon.

He said wage increases “are not keeping pace with higher prices”.

“Americans feel pain, it’s obvious, it’s true,” Hasan said, adding that partisan divides in the “political and media climate that we live in” may also have contributed to Biden’s low approval ratings.

Several Twitter users, including some high-profile users, reacted negatively to MSNBC’s narrative. Actress Susan Sarandon cited inflation, record-high gas prices, an increase in the defense budget and a lack of COVID aid, among others, as possible reasons why Biden’s approval rating is so low.

“You can try to tell people who just emptied their wallets to buy half a tank of gas or a few basic groceries that the economy is ‘booming’, but it won’t mean much to them,” said political science professor and columnist Eddie called a zipperer. “You just can’t lie to people about how much money they have.”

Congressional candidate Robby Starbuck said the economy could only “boom” if Biden “strapped it to explosives” and it exploded everywhere.

Political commentator Tina Lowe said: “7.9% consumer inflation! Double digit producer inflation! Negative real wage growth and negative interest rates!

Outkick founder Clay Travis said “good job here MSNBC” and included a screenshot of the tweet.

The President said it “sends a clear message that we value financial responsibility, safety and security at home and around the world.”

The budget would also increase law enforcement spending, allocating $303 million to expand job opportunities in information technology, manufacturing, transportation and healthcare.

“All in all, this is a budget that includes historic deficit reductions, historic investments in our security at home and abroad, and an unprecedented commitment to building an economy where everyone has a chance to thrive,” the President said Monday.

A poll by NBC News found that 63% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, compared to just 33%.

According to the same poll, Biden’s overall job approval dropped to 40%.
