Local economic watchers share their 2023 outlook for Charlotte and beyond | WFAE 90.7

The economy is a bit mixed at the moment. After a year of skyrocketing inflation, prices seem to be falling, but not the price of money. Interest rates continue to rise, making borrowing more expensive.

After the pandemic, many workers demanded and received higher wages, which helped offset some of the inflation, and employment levels are higher today than before the pandemic. We’re almost at full employment, but layoffs have now started in some industries out of concern that more will follow.

We are joined by several economists to tell us where we are and where they think we are headed.
