Kansas hospitals provide day-to-day health care to Kansas patients while providing careers, services, and resources that make a positive impact on the Kansas economy.
Currently, the healthcare sector is among the fastest growing in the economy. When healthcare thrives, local and state economies also thrive. Health care is also vital for communities as it provides a space for all generations to live and thrive.
According to a January 2022 study titled The Importance of the Health Care Sector to the Kansas Economy by Kansas State University’s Department of Agricultural Economics, hospitals in Kansas impact the local and state economy.
Kansas hospitals employ nearly 100,000, or five percent of all jobholders in the state. For every job in the hospital sector, another 95 jobs will be created in the country’s other companies and industries, equivalent to 94,000 jobs. State and local governments generate $2.1 billion in annual tax revenue from health care activities. The health sector is third largest collective employer in Kansas. For every dollar of revenue generated by hospitals, another 63 cents are generated in other businesses, for a total impact of $12.3 billion.
