LIMA – He was frequently on the national news, but on Friday, Wapakoneta residents were able to direct their questions to him.
US Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, spoke Friday morning at the Optimist Club in Wapakoneta. Jordan discussed the Judiciary Committee’s plans, as well as the issues of inflation and the economy.
“The approval process is ongoing,” Jordan said. “One of the things we want the Judiciary Committee and House Republicans to do is put certain limits on how your tax dollars are being used. For example, no money in the Department of Homeland Security should be used to set up a disinformation governance body.”
In response to questions from community members, Jordan shared his thoughts on national debt across the country.
“In the next few years, the interest rate will go up to $1 trillion a year,” Jordan said. “As our interest payments get closer to what we pay for national defense, I think this debt ceiling agreement has put us in the right direction because, for the first time, we will be spending less money on discretionary spending this year than last year.”
Jordan also said that in recent years he has only voted for two of the 11 debt ceiling increases in the past decade.
“The bottom line is you have to get the economy going again like it was three years ago,” Jordan said. “If you grow, even if you owe as much as we do; when you make progress that sends such a message to the rest of the world.”
Jordan said that when it comes to the economy, “leadership matters.”
“The reason western Ohio is doing so well is because we have good leadership in the schools, we have good families, good communities, and just every step of every step along the way,” Jordan said. “by the local government, the state government and the federal government.” Government. If you get the right leadership, you can turn things around.”
