Expect “big changes” in the Fortnite creative industries this year

According to Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, the Fortnite Creative Economy system will see “major changes” this year. The developer had previously promised that Fortnite Creative 2.0 would be coming to the Battle Royale game sometime in 2022, and it looks like that will also bring improvements to the Support-a-Creator sharing program.

Fortnite Creative was added to the multiplayer game back in 2018, allowing developers to create and show their game modes to others. While it’s a great place to find items that haven’t been added to the main game — most recently the jetpacks — it’s only seen minor improvements over the past few years, like stopping XP farming.

The Support-a-Creator program is the primary way creators are paid, and right now it’s 5% for every $100 a player spends in Fortnite or the Epic Games Store when they this binds to a specific creator code those creators get $5.

While Epic CEO Tim Sweeney previously confirmed Creative 2.0 as a release for this year, the company’s co-founder today confirms that “Creator Economy Versions 2 and 3” are already in the works. More importantly, we should “expect some big changes throughout the year” – perhaps as 2.0 falls.

For now, a Zero Build mode has just been added to Fortnite, and the game has raised over $100 million to help aid efforts in Ukraine.
