DeSantis says voters' biggest concerns are economy and border: 'Biden doesn't seem to care'

WWith less than a month to go before the Jan. 15 Iowa caucuses, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said voters are most concerned about the economy and the border crisis.

During an appearance on Hannity, DeSantis told Fox News' Kayleigh McEnany that he used to say the economy dominated voters' minds, but now the border is also at the forefront.

“When we started the process, I would have said economy, clear one, limit, clear No. 2. Now I would say economy is 1a and limit is 1b. I think people are seeing the impact of the border,” DeSantis said. “Every community has become a border community.”

“Joe Biden doesn’t seem to care. The elites in DC don’t seem to care,” the Republican presidential candidate added. “When you talk to people in Iowa, but also people in New Hampshire and other early states, you get the accurate feeling that the people who run this government don't care about the people they were elected to serve. We have to change that, and 2024 gives us the opportunity to do that.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) also joined DeSantis, noting that around 10,000 immigrants cross the border every day.

“Americans are feeling it across the country,” Roy said, noting there is a solution. “Republicans in the House of Representatives have passed HR2, a law to strengthen border security. The key is we have to force passage and force the president to sign it.”

“And if he doesn't, we'll have to elect a president who will sign the bill,” he added, referring to DeSantis while criticizing former President Donald Trump for “standing with Paul Ryan, um “To try to pass an amnesty-first bill rather than a border security-first bill, which is what got us into the situation we’re in right now.”

DeSantis continues to trail Trump, the Republican front-runner, who maintains a commanding lead in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination despite his various charges, which include federal charges of mishandling classified documents.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all 91 counts.
