EDITOR'S NOTE: The Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce hosted local government officials March 14 to detail major projects for 2024 and highlight achievements in 2023. This is one of a series of articles detailing the speeches given.
Several projects undertaken by area businesses will help boost North Perry Village's economy in the near future.
Details of these efforts were announced by Village Service Director Jeramy Johnson as part of the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce's 2024 Community Reps Update program.
Johnson said during his speech that Painesville Credit Union is preparing to break ground on construction of a new branch in the village.
The office will be built on the north side of North Ridge Road on land purchased by Painesville Credit Union from North Perry.
Johnson also said TekFab has nearly completed construction of a new building behind its current manufacturing facility at 4823 North Ridge Road.
The company will use the additional building to assemble and test metal forming equipment and machinery before shipping these items to customers.
“This expansion will create 30 to 35 new jobs for us in North Perry,” Johnson said.
Additionally, Johnson said new owners have taken over the Perry Nuclear Generating Station in North Perry.
Earlier this month, Vistra Corp. closed. the acquisition of Energy Harbor, the parent company of the Perry and Davis-Besse nuclear power plants in Ohio.
Prior to Vistra's purchase, Energy Harbor submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to extend the Perry Nuclear Power Plant's operating license for an additional 20 years. The current operating license expires on November 7, 2026.
NRC is still reviewing the license renewal application.
Johnson turned his attention to North Perry Village government, saying Brian Titus took the oath of office as the newly elected village mayor in January.
Titus was president of the Village Council in 2022 when then-Mayor Ed Klco announced his resignation on July 31 of that year.
As council chairman, Titus assumed additional duties as acting mayor for the remainder of Klco's unexpired term. Titus then ran unopposed for mayor in the November 2023 general election.
At the same election, Rob Ford was elected as the new village council member, replacing Titus on the board.
Additionally, on August 1, North Perry Village named Jennifer Schueren as its new financial officer. She replaced Joann Clapp, who resigned to accept a new and similar position in northwest Ohio.
“Jennifer is doing an outstanding job filling Joann’s shoes,” Johnson said.
Johnson also said North Perry will use NOPEC Energized Community Grant funds for several projects.
NOPEC is officially known as the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council.
Part of this grant is earmarked for upgrading some street lights in the village. The plan is to replace old high-pressure sodium vapor lamps with new LED lights.
Funds from the Energized Community Grant will also be used to replace an old traffic signal at the intersection of Lockwood and Evergreen streets with a new signal with LED lighting.
In a separate project, North Perry has applied for a matching funds grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission to pave Evergreen Road and a section of Lockwood Road, Johnson said.
