NEW YORK (PIX11) – The Center for an Urban Future has proposed five groundbreaking ideas to improve New York City's post-pandemic economy.
These ideas aim to address the ongoing challenges arising from the changing economic landscape post-pandemic, including hybrid work models, e-commerce, housing shortages and climate change preparedness.

Actionable strategies outlined by the organization include creating a new world-class undergraduate university, convening a high-profile, cross-industry AI Week to capture a large portion of the country's fast-growing AI industry, and launching the first annual cultural festival of the city in five boroughs, creating a major new public art installation on the scale of “The Gates” and expanding public art programs throughout the city.
Jonathan Bowles, the organization's executive director, emphasizes that these ideas could play a crucial role in revitalizing the city at a time when reinvention is essential.
“New York has always been a place about big ideas. It's not like they happen every year, but I haven't been afraid to put forward big ideas and think one of the great things about New York is that it's constantly reinventing itself. In fact, it's always about implementing new, fresh ideas to keep the city strong. And that's why we think that these ideas, or some of them, right now might contribute to the fact that this might be a time where we need to reinvent ourselves,” Bowles says.
