Dua Lipa, everyone’s favorite catsuit-wearing Y2K-loving pop star, skipped the 2022 Met Gala last night. 😢
The artist chose not to attend the Met Gala this year, along with other celebs like Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde, Zendaya, Taylor Swift, Timothée Chalamet (crying @ this one), and Rihanna who didn’t show up for various reasons. Zendaya apologized to her fans, explaining that she had conflicts filming while Taylor Swift hasn’t attended a Met Gala since 2016 and Rihanna is, well, very pregnant. However, she was honored with a marble statue of herself (belly and all) on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art!
Dua Lipa isn’t pregnant or filming, but she’s been touring non-stop around the world for the highly anticipated Future Nostalgia tour, which has been postponed multiple times due to COVID-19. The singer has ripped it up on and offstage in corset dresses, exposed thongs, glittery cowboy outfits and even Ariana Grande’s signature ponytail, and is currently in London to wrap up the UK leg of the tour.
Unfortunately, this meant the “Sweetest Pie” singer couldn’t fly back to NYC in time to attend the 2022 Met Gala. Dua Lipa posted video clips to Instagram of herself strutting around the stage in a glittery Mugler couture catsuit adorned with over 120,000 crystals. Spoiler alert: it looks incredible when she performs under the stage lights. The singer captioned the photo dump, “That was my Met Gala @ the 02,” in reference to London’s O2 where she performed last night. Away from the Met levels, too, the look fitted perfectly with this year’s Gilded Glamor theme.
We were sad to miss you on the Met Gala red carpet, Dua, but you served up gilded, glittery glam all the way across the pond. There’s always next year!
