“Why Do Rules Change For Celebrities?!”: Kyrie Irving Defends Ja Morant Despite Recent Gun Controversy

As things stand right now, you probably wouldn’t expect Kyrie Irving and Ja Morant to be best friends right now. Finally, the NBA community’s question as to why Nike stopped working with one and discontinued the other must have an impact on the players themselves.

Although Irving is often controversial, he can also be very understanding at times. And it seems Morant is enjoying it immensely, as the Mavericks star vowed to him on a recent Instagram Live. And yes, he absolutely knew about the gun controversies.

Kyrie Irving helps Ja Morant and says everyone makes mistakes on Instagram live

When it comes to other NBA players, Ja Morant hasn’t gotten much. After all, it’s hard to salvage your brand image if you make a mistake by helping it. On the other hand, to be fair to the other players, a man brandishing a gun will.

However, Kyrie Irving is clearly not like other NBA players. And as if to demonstrate just that, he rushed to Ja Morant’s defense in a recent Instagram Live. Here is what he said on the subject.

“You all saw what’s going on. We don’t have to go into 12ski (Ja Morant). We don’t even have to go into that. We don’t have to go into that because 12ski isn’t the only one dealing with real life circumstances. He’s not the only one. He won’t be the only one.

So guess what I’m gonna do. I’ll stand up and make sure I’m there for my family and friends. We all make mistakes. We all do things we will regret. But somehow, when you’re a celebrity and you’re famous, you’re subject to different rules.”

Honestly, we don’t think Kyrie Irving should be criticized too much for what he’s saying here. After all, the man didn’t justify what was going on. No, he just said that everyone makes mistakes and that he will be there for his family.

That doesn’t sound so bad. However, we hope Ja Morant appreciates the support he’s getting here and treats the whole thing as a wake-up call. Otherwise, he could soon be really without support.

What is the Ja Morant gun controversy?

In late February, rumors spread that Ja Morant pointed a gun at a high schooler after a game of pick-up. The incident in question is said to have occurred during the 2022 NBA offseason.

At the time, many simply dismissed these claims. However, Ja Morant then refrained from holding a gun in front of the camera during an Instagram Live session, a mistake you can check out in the clip in the tweet below.

The NBA requested a two-game suspension for the man in response to all the evidence. In addition, the Grizzles have decided that Morant will stay away from the team for 3 more games.
