From his days as a champion bodybuilder, to his stint as one of Hollywood’s most popular action stars in the ’80s and ’90s, to his two terms as California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger has lived an incredibly visible life for nearly five decades — and he wanted it have nothing else.
In an original interview with Men’s Health, Schwarzenegger opened up about how it feels to be such a well-known socialite and revealed that he loves it when fans reach out to him.
“I don’t feel like I want to spend a moment alone when I go to the gym, go to a restaurant or when I go out,” he said. “I have my alone moment when I’m at home. When I’m with the animals, or when I’m sitting in front of my fireplace, or when I’m reading, or watching TV, or smoking a stogey, or going into the hot tub. I have a lot of time to myself.
In fact, unlike many other celebrities who might evade fans or paparazzi, Schwarzenegger doesn’t quite understand why a famous person should expect to be left alone when out and about in the world.

“‘Oh, I want privacy…’ Fuck privacy! What are we talking about here?” he continued. “You are a public person. You have to expect people to come up to you and ask for a photo or a question or say, ‘Hey, I just read that about you, it’s really great, or it sucks.’ I mean, that’s to be expected. Otherwise don’t go out.”
He continues: “I don’t think you can have both. Be famous and make everyone come to your theaters and buy your stuff, but not at the same time.” [have] someone is talking to you It won’t work that way. That’s the way things are.”
