To pay or not to pay? This question made the rounds of celebrities and organizations who had their Twitter blue tick removed by the social media platform’s controversial new owner. Elon Musk has tried to turn the popular site into a moneymaker, but not everyone thought they should pay for the privilege of being able to effectively say, “Yes, it’s me!” Like Liam Gallagher, a fairly articulate man, on Saturday said it is “absurd”.
Why do some people have their blue ticks back?
Well, on Sunday morning, many of these little icons started appearing next to the names of famous users (and a few) of the site, and no payments had been made. It seems that the algorithm has been set to activate for anyone who has at least a million followers. Let’s take a look at the conversations this change of heart sparked.
