These Celebrities Were Forced To Quit Dancing With The Stars

Miniature strokes, broken bones, and divorces all played a role in these stars’ departure.

“Dancing With The Stars” may seem like sequins and smiles, but behind the scenes it’s tough competition.

The celebs who take part in the show often reach their mental and physical limits when learning to dance alongside the pros. Unfortunately, the show proves to be too intense for some and they are forced to stop – sometimes before they ever make it to the live recording.

While most of these stars are devastated they have to retreat, but it’s always about keeping everyone safe and healthy. But with a bit of luck you will be invited back to try again!

Find out which stars had to leave “Dancing With The Stars”.

1. Kim Zolciak-Biermann

During Kim Zolciak-Biermann’s time on “Dancing With The Stars”, she unfortunately suffered a small stroke while visiting the house. A few days later, she was released from the hospital and continued training with her partner. Unfortunately, the doctors didn’t give her permission to fly back to Los Angeles and she was forced to withdraw from the competition against her will. Kim stated that she was hoping to return within the next week, but the show’s strict rules didn’t allow her to skip a week.

“[I feel] really great … I rehearsed on Saturday, learned all the dance … and then my doctor told me yesterday that it is just too early to fly, that I could go next week, but just not today, so I’m really sad ” said Kim on the air.

2. Christie Brinkley

Christie Brinkley had to stop “DWTS” prematurely before the competition even began. In the weeks leading up to the show, Christie broke her arm while exercising, which required surgery on his wrist and arm. Thankfully, Christie’s daughter Sailor was able to fill in to replace her on the reality show.

“I just broke my arm into 1000 pieces that had to be operated on with a metal plate and screws to hold my arm together … I’m so sorry! Only something like this could keep me from dancing with my wonderful trainer. .. I had a blast! It was literally a crushing dis -pointment, I never want to let anyone down, so I’ve been looking for a silver lining and I think this one is solid gold! ” Christie was writing on Instagram at the time.

3. Jeannie Mai

While participating in the show in 2020, Jeannie had to retire after she was diagnosed with epiglottis, a condition that causes swelling and blocks air flow to her lungs. After she left the show, she underwent surgery for the potentially life-threatening health problem.

“It saddens me that I cannot continue to compete on DWTS. My doctors have identified a health problem with my throat that requires immediate attention and surgery. It breaks my heart that my DWTS trip has to end here. The The past few weeks have been an amazing learning experience. I’ve pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come, “said Jeannie in a statement.

4. Billy Dee Williams

Billy Dee Williams was one of the oldest participants to ever take part in “DWTS”, but after a tough training experience and the first week of competition, he had to retire due to his struggle with chronic back pain.

“I had a wonderful, brilliant, fantastic time … pure joy. And I want to thank each of you for your support,” he said on the show.

5th jewel

Jewel didn’t make it into the first week of competition before leaving the show. During the rehearsal, she announced that she had tendinitis in her knees and it got worse when she broke her shin in both legs. She had to back off when the doctors told her not to even run, let alone dance. Thankfully, she was still able to attend the show to cheer on her husband, Ty Murray, who was also competing.

“When the doctors told me my injuries were so severe that I couldn’t run, let alone compete, I was devastated that I couldn’t continue the show with my husband Ty (Murray) and his partner Chelsie. I hope to be back on the show in the future, “she explained.

6. Tamar Braxton

Tamar Braxton was nine weeks after the competition when she was hospitalized with an expected pneumonia. She left the hospital to compete and then returned quickly after the show was over. Unfortunately, her condition was much worse than she thought and she was actually suffering from blood clots in her lungs. She was then forced to take a step back from the show.

“After yesterday’s last #dwts gig, I went back to the hospital (after the doctors didn’t want me to go at all) only to find out that I didn’t have pneumonia, but something much more serious and that’s multiple PE’s (blood clots on both sides of my lungs). As you all know, I will always be the first to encourage anyone to overcome any obstacle that comes their way. But in this case, my health is my current obstacle, “Tamar wrote in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.

7. Ray Lewis

Former NFL player Ray Lewis was forced to leave DWTS after an old foot injury resurfaced that left him with three torn tendons in his foot. When told that he needed an operation, Ray decided that he could not continue the competition.

“Not the ending I was hoping for or working for, but this mirror ball was not on my plans. I can’t thank you enough for the support and love. Injuries have never stopped me, and certainly not now. I’ll be doing the squirrel dance again soon, “wrote Ray on Instagram.

8. Dorothy Hamill

Dorothy Hamill had only participated in two dances when she had to retire from “Dancing With The Stars”. Unfortunately, the retired Olympic ice skater suffered a serious back injury that made it difficult to continue. Dorothy decided to eliminate herself before anyone else could be sent home.

“I followed the advice of my spinal surgeon and have to withdraw from the competition. I have an injury that could be irreparable and nerve damage. It would be completely unfair if I stay here and have something like that. ”People go home … They are the greatest people who want to be here. It’s not that I don’t want to be here, but I wish I could give it my all, but I can’t, “said Dorothy, continuing to air.

9. Sara Evans

Country singer Sara Evans was in her fifth week of competition when she unexpectedly left the show due to personal reasons. Though she didn’t explain what was going on at the time, she filed for divorce from ex-husband Craig Schelske days after she left. Looking back, Sara says the show was an amazing experience, but she knew she needed to be with her family at the time.

“‘Dancing with the Stars’ was the most amazing experience of my life. Tony Dovolani was my partner and I had so much fun … Unfortunately, I got divorced in the middle of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and something traumatic h -pened. We wanted to do the group dance the next day and I had to leave the kids and be away about 15 hours a day and I just couldn’t. I knew the kids needed it, so I had to stop, “Sara said in” The Talk “.

10. Nancy O’Dell

Nancy O’Dell had to retire shortly before the premiere of “DWTS” after tearing the meniscus in her knee in two places. The injury, which her doctor described as “significant,” required surgery that would have taken eight weeks to recover.

“Aside from the dis -pointment, the dis -pointment doesn’t even describe how I feel about not being able to move on to ‘Dancing With the Stars’. It’s been one of my favorite shows since season one … I will miss working with my partner Tony Dovolani and all the other wonderful people on the fantastic production of ‘Dancing With the Stars’. Tony was a great teacher and dance partner and I feel terrible that I can’t go on for him … even though it was short it was a great experience. I challenged myself to risk something I’d never done before! ”Nancy said in a statement.

11. Misty May-Treanor

Misty May-Treanor was still an active professional beach volleyball player when she signed up with DWTS. In the fourth week of the competition, she unfortunately tore her Achilles tendon during a rehearsal. When she discovered that repairing the injury would require surgery and nine months of rehabilitation, she knew she had to leave the show.

“I tore my Achilles tendon and from that moment on I knew I couldn’t go on. I’m out and I’m really devastated. We don’t know why these things h -pen. They can h -pen to anyone. I feel like me just started here, “Misty told People.
