Taylor Swift isn’t the only celebrity facing backlash over her private jet use.
There could be bad blood between environmentalists and pop princess Taylor Swift.
Yard, a UK-based sustainability marketing agency, found that Swift was the year’s top polluter based on her private jet usage in the first seven months of 2022.
After retrieving data from Celebrity Jets, a source tracking celebrity private jet usage, Yard found that Swift’s private jet flew 170 times in the first 200 days of this year.
A spokesperson for Swift released a statement after this report was released, saying, “Taylor’s jet is regularly loaned to other people, it is obviously wrong to attribute most or all of these trips to her.”
However, Swift isn’t the only celebrity facing backlash over her private jet use.
Yard’s most prominent carbon dioxide sinners are:
Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather ranks second on the list, emitting more than 7,000 tons of carbon dioxide this year.
Following Mayweather is Jay-Z, whose jet has completed 136 flights.
A-Rod with 106 flights.
Blake Shelton, with more flights than A-Rod at 111, but with longer flight times.
Steven Spielberg, Kim Kardashian, Mark Wahlberg, Oprah Winfrey and rapper Travis Scott also made the list.
Additionally, Kylie Jenner and Drake faced widespread public criticism after it was revealed that their private jets logged journeys of just 17 minutes and 14 minutes.
The Associate Director of the UNC Institute for the Environment, Dr. Sarav Arunachalam joins Newsy to explain the environmental costs of owning and overusing a private jet.
