The best dressed celebrities at the 2022 Emmy Awards

The Emmys are a time when the small screen shines. At last night’s 74th awards show, after two years of Covid-enforced hiatus, we finally saw a return to the 7,100-seat Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and with it a return to full frontal red carpet fashion.

The event is usually not as formal as the Oscars, meaning more adventurous looks are served. In yesterday’s affair, A-listers experimented with the biggest trend of 2022: cut-out clothes.

Yellowjackets actress Jasmine Savoy Brown stunned in a sexy Christopher Kane latex dress that was cut out at the hips and bust, complete with a ruched skirt that hung from gold snake chains. Ozark star Julia Garner, meanwhile, accepted her Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in a stunning Gucci gown, embellished with flowers and a diamond-shaped neckline that revealed her belly button. Issa Rae, who wore a tailored Sergio Hudson gown with a coy bodice cutout, also showed skin.

Sequins were the order of the day, with a cohort of celebs rocking shimmering dresses. Squid Game star Jung Ho-yeon in particular stole the show in a dazzling multicolored geometric Louis Vuitton gown. Complete with a clean bob and sweeping side fringe, the South Korean actress is quick to offer up her credentials as a fashion IT girl. There was also Lily James’ form-fitting Versace chain mail dress and Christina Ricci’s iridescent Fendi Couture slip, both with a more subtle sheen for their form-fitting, ruched gowns.

Tulle also made a big appearance on the carpet, with singer Lizzo, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Competitive Program for her show Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, dressed in the red tailored Giambattista Valli, which had billowing tulle sleeves and a long train. While Kaley Cuoco looked angelic in a pink tulle dress with a train and floral appliques.

Of course, no Best Dressed list is complete without Zendaya, who once again made history as the youngest two-time Emmy winner. The Euphoria star embraced Old Hollywood with a tailored black strapless Valentino gown that garnered 1.3 million likes on Instagram in less than an hour. She paired the simple yet elegant look styled by Law Roach with Bulgari diamonds and a large bow in her half-up half-up hairstyle.
