Taylor Swift's lawyers have threatened legal action against a student who tracks the movements of her and other celebrities' private jets.

Jack Sweeney is the creator of social media accounts that log the takeoffs and landings of planes and helicopters owned by billionaires, politicians and other public figures.

His reports gained traction earlier this year Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 to track the private jets of Russian oligarchs.

Mr Sweeney was also involved in a high-profile dispute Elon Muskin November 2022 about the pursuit of the X and Tesla Owner's private jet.

The University of Central Florida student said Tuesday he received a cease-and-desist letter from Swift's lawyers, who called his actions “reckless” and said the singer lives her life “in constant fear for her personal safety.” .

“While this may be a game for you or a path that you hope will bring you wealth or fame, it is a matter of life and death,” the 14-time Grammy winner's lawyers wrote in the letter, sent to Mr Sweeney had made it available to him from NBC News – the US partner of Sky News.

It comes after a Seattle man, David Crowe, was was arrested two weeks ago for allegedly stalking Swift outside her townhouse in New York City.

Swift's lawyers accused Mr. Sweeney of “stalking and harassing behavior” in the letter – a claim the student's lawyers have strongly rejected.

According to Mr. Sweeney, the accounts aim to provide “transparency” and utilize publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“I think it's important to note that I don't mean any harm, I'm just sharing the facts,” he told NBC News.

“I actually think Swift has some good songs.”

James Slater, a Florida attorney representing Sweeney, said Swift's legal team had no legal authority to block the accounts.

“There is no requirement to just release public information,” Mr. Slater said.

“And in the letter from Ms. Swift’s lawyers, they did not address any real claims.”

Sky News has contacted Swift's representatives for comment.

It could be that the singer could be just days away from one of the most watched private jet trips in recent world history.

The 34-year-old star will soon play four nights at Japan's Tokyo Dome.

The final appearance is scheduled to take place on Saturday evening – one day before her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

Experts say Swift could finish the performance and arrive in Las Vegas if she had enough time to attend the game if she made the trip on her private jet.

Swift has been criticized for the carbon footprint of her use of private jets, although her representatives have previously said she uses offsets by purchasing carbon credits to compensate.

“Taylor has earned more than double the carbon credits needed to offset all tour travel,” her publicist said before the start of her recent Eras tour.
