In recent times, several Bollywood stars have successfully beaten cancer after early detection and treatment. These celebrities who took on the health challenge emerged victorious, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis in the fight against cancer.

Take a look at some of the celebrities who battled cancer and became warriors.

SANJAY DUTT

In 2020, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer. Following this revelation, he underwent extensive treatment for his illness at a hospital in Mumbai. A few months after being diagnosed with cancer, Sanjay Dutt announced in 2021 that he had successfully overcome the disease and was cancer-free.

In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Sanjay had said, “I just told myself that I don't have cancer. Sevanti, one of the most fantastic doctors I have met in my life, took care of me. Thanks to Rakesh Roshan Saab, he recommended her. Everything she said, I will do the operation. She said Baal Girenge, I said Nahi Girenge, I did chemotherapy and went to training.

SONALI BENDRE

In a post that broke her fans' hearts in 2018, actress Sonali Bendre revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She took to social media to announce that she was undergoing treatment in New York for a high-grade cancer. In her post, the 47-year-old actress revealed that this diagnosis was unexpected. Due to the immense love and support she received, Sonali remained optimistic. From staying with Priyanka Chopra in New York City to visiting Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, Sonali had her family and friends by her side throughout the treatment.

As a result of chemotherapy, Sonali Bendre took a bold step and decided to shave off her hair. However, she also expressed a desire to wear a wig whenever she feels like it.

In a post on social media, Sonali revealed that she is always expected to look good in the entertainment industry. But this time she chose what suits her and her mood best!

In December 2018, Sonali returned to Mumbai after recovering from cancer.

RAKESH ROSHAN

Earlier this year, veteran actor and director Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with early-stage throat cancer – squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. This particular type of cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lining of the throat.

His son, actor Hrithik Roshan, announced the news in a post and also shared a picture with his father before training. He wrote that he knew Rakesh Roshan would not miss the gym even on the day of the surgery.

The director is recovering and was recently spotted voting in Mumbai for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Rakesh Roshan's daughter Sunaina Roshan was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few years ago but survived.

MANISHA'S DOG

“Dil Se” actress Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 at the age of 42. However, her determination helped her get through the crisis – so much so that she even wrote a memoir about her brush with cancer and how she survived to tell the story!

KIRRON KHER

Veteran actress Kirron Kher has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects plasma cells. Anupam Kher shared that the actor and MP is currently undergoing treatment for the disease. Through various social media posts, her son Sikander regularly updates his fans about her health status. Recently, Kirron herself shared on Instagram that she is working from home.

LISA RAY

In 2009, Lisa Ray was also diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects plasma cells. This discovery marked a significant turning point in her life. Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow and causes abnormal growth of plasma cells. Despite the severity of the diagnosis, Lisa Ray approached her battle with cancer with persistence and determination.

And even Nafisa Ali Sodhi was diagnosed with peritoneal and ovarian cancer in November 2018

Several other actors like Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Nargis, Mumtaz and Feroz Khan have lost their battle with cancer. Their contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark, and their absence is deeply felt. Despite their talent, the harsh reality of cancer took its toll on these luminaries and left fans mourning the loss of these iconic figures in the world of cinema.
