It’s that time of the year when we start collecting lists of who’s made the most messages (noise). One such list, the UK’s annual list of the ‘Top 50 Asian Celebrities in the World’ has been released and not surprisingly ‘RRR’ stars Jr. NTR and Ram Charan have jointly topped the list after a spectacular year for the Indian actors .
As for the selection, Asjad Nazir, Eastern Eye’s entertainment editor, who compiled the list, told PTI, “Jr. NTR and Ram Charan ignited theatrical fire with RRR, sparking interest in Indian commercial films among cross-cultural audiences worldwide. including international media, never seen before.”
“It led to RRR battling in every major category for the 2023 Oscars, winning honors like the Hollywood Critics Association Spotlight Award and earning two Golden Globe nominations. The heroes also drew attention to regional language cinema in India, leading to numerous film successes outside of the commercial Bollywood space,” added Nazir.
Second on the list is Pakistani actor Fawad Khan with his film The Legend of Maula Jatt, which had a massive box office run in Pakistan and set a new bar for the country’s cinema industry. He is also recognized for an award-winning performance in the Disney+ superhero series Ms Marvel.
The 2022 Top 50 Asian Celebrities in the World will be published in the UK Weekly Eastern Eye on 16 December.
