NEW DELHI, August 28: High profile public figures, movie stars, students and people from all walks of life have joined the ongoing Pan-Indian Beach/Coast Cleanup Campaign, resulting in an overwhelming response to the 75-day exercise, which began on August 17. August should end September.

The minister also launched the Logo-Vasuki campaign, dedicated to the country’s youth, as together with the students they show great interest and join the coast and beach cleaning activities.
dr Jitendra Singh updated the media on the progress of this longest-ever campaign of its kind, noting that the campaign was modeled on the “whole-of-government” approach often repeated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying this alongside the executive ministry for Earth Sciences, the Ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Jal Shakti, Health and Family Welfare, Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy, External Relations and Information and Broadcasting are actively involved in the campaign. He added that many ministers and MPs have pledged their full support for the world’s first and longest-running coastal cleanup campaign.
dr Jitendra Singh pointed out that Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav together with Puducherry Deputy Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, and Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy, just yesterday led the beach clean-up and awareness campaign. The promenade beach campaign was marked by school children and beach users in English and Tamil with a pledge of ‘I Am Saving My Beach’. This was followed by the distribution of prizes for the painting competition held on this occasion. The dignitaries ushered in a walkathon featuring 100 students, cyclists and a float on the theme of “Connecting with the Ocean.”
The minister also informed that in the first 20 days of the ongoing 75-day coast cleaning campaign, which started on July 5, 2022, more than 200 tons of rubbish, mainly single-use plastic, was removed from the sea coasts.
dr Jitendra Singh also noted with satisfaction that so far more than 52,000 volunteers from 24 states have already registered for the 75-day campaign, which launched on July 5, 2022, to raise awareness of “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar”. , which will culminate “International Coastal Clean-up Day” on September 17, 2022.
The minister directed officials at the Department of Geosciences to involve NGOs, civic groups, children and youth forums, businesses, non-profit organizations, consular staff, as well as the municipal bodies of coastal states to transform it into a Jan Andolan.
