Tony Dokoupil, who appeared on Wednesday night’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert, shared a story in which he understandably noted that celebrities don’t pee.
Dokoupil appeared with CBS Mornings host Gayle King, although Nate Burleson (who completes the hosting trio) was absent.
Not wanting to name names in his story to protect the innocent, Dokoupil was cautious when explaining that he had interviewed someone on the spot, implying it was after some kind of performance. Before the interview, he remarked, “There was a big tent, and being a curious person that I am, I opened it up and looked inside.” Dokoupil soon noticed that when he went inside, there was a pot for someone to pee in .
For some reason, Dokoupil thought it wise to take a picture of it and post it on social media, albeit without a name or anything else that would indicate the musician using it. However, as he explained, “I got a call about a second after the picture was posted from the PR guys who I thought were going to come through heaven and kick the door and take my phone.”
For understandable reasons, the unnamed cast member’s PR team was pissed.
Dokoupil was told to vacate the post and of course he complied. Colbert listened intently to the story and joked that Bruce Springsteen must have been upset.
Concluding, Dokoupil said: “I teach my son that everyone pees, but celebrities don’t. You don’t pee.”
Explaining for those who may have taken Dokoupil literally, Gayle King said, “They do it, but they just don’t want you to talk about it.”
We’re grateful for Gayle’s wisdom here, who dressed all in yellow, which is ironic given the pee story. Still, she then added a story of her own when Colbert asked her if she had any regrets on air, and spoke about a moment early in her career when she was doing local news as a presenter.
King explained that one night while checking out, she mispronounced herself by saying, “We’re all going to be black next weekend,” when she obviously meant to say, “We’re all going to be back next weekend.”
Gayle continued by telling Colbert, “I was so embarrassed because people are so afraid of race. I’m not afraid of racing. So I said, ‘Well, I’ll still be black, but these guys will be back.'”
We’re excited to see what Nate Burleson’s story would be, but after the offbeat pee story, it might be best that he misses this one.
