He said he was “self-doubting” when he joined the ITV show and he should have been more “authentic”. “I could have been a lot more sociable,” he said.
Of his many references to the royal family, he said: “People asked me a lot of questions specifically about this topic because they didn't know what to ask me. And I often volunteered for it.”
“First time on TV and I cried like a baby twice,” he said of his experience.
“One day I’m Gary, the next I’m a national villain.”
In Friday's episode, Mr Goldsmith said he had not found “true peace” during a Big Brother stint.
“I think peace is something to always strive for,” he said.
“I thought I had a really cool life until something happened to you. One day I was Gary, a businessman laughing in a good place with a great family.
“And the next minute I’m a national villain. If any of you thought about Googling me, it just sucks, but it's not me.
“So if I’m honest, I don’t really know what true peace is.”
Kate's mother's brother, Carole Middleton, was fined £5,000 and given a community order in November 2017 after admitting he attacked his wife in a drink-fuelled argument.
Mr Goldsmith's inclusion on the show was previously criticized by Women's Aid, which advised the program to consider his appearance.
In a statement to the show, Mr Goldsmith previously said: “I am not perfect and I made a mistake, a personal dispute seven years ago that came to light publicly and which I have worked endlessly for seven years to correct.”
“The crime is long over, but my regrets continue.”
