Mike Tindall has revealed how the Prince of Wales reacted when he told him he plans to go ahead with ‘I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here’.

On his podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby, the former England captain – who is married to Prince William’s cousin Zara – spoke about approaching the king before his performance.

Explaining that he hadn’t asked permission to appear on the show, Mike said, “You don’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to the Prince of Wales about it and he said, ‘Great, enjoy’.”

Prince William and Mike have long been close friends and are often snapped joking at royal events – and can’t resist a hug when they see each other in public.

Elsewhere, Mike said he didn’t receive any warnings about what he might or might not share about the royal family on the show.

However, he did tell how he had some “chats brief” about The Firm.

It was previously reported that the 43-year-old former England rugby player “did not seek permission” from King Charles to appear on the reality program, according to the Times.

“Me, my brother and then a few from Zara’s side like her brother Pete [Phillips] and the cousins ​​are in WhatsApp groups,” Mike once revealed.

“I wouldn’t say we’re up to speed, but with WhatsApp it’s easier for some reason.”

He added on another occasion: “It’s just what you do to organize gatherings and we go to something that is the same.

“If you go [we discuss things like] “Are you going to take the kids?” Quite a lot of people have family WhatsApp groups.”

The couple are often photographed joking at royal events – and can’t resist a hug when they see each other in public.

William and Mike were photographed looking friendly at several public engagements, with the former England rugby player having supported the king at polo matches in the past.

They were also willing to interfere with each other’s children. Mike was photographed carrying Prince George, eight, on his shoulders while William took Mia, eight, with him.

Mia and George appear to be on particularly good terms and have been spotted together at royal events.

Last month Prince William was asked if he wanted Tindall to win the competition when he arrived at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
